After the fall of Oregon to Stanford, and Baylor's rout of Oklahoma, the college football landscape has once more shifted its attention to the SEC. This evening, #1 Alabama will host #13 Louisiana State (Kickoff Time is 8:00PM Eastern, CBS) in the Crimson Tide's first game against a ranked opponent since September 28th. ESPN's College Gameday is in Tuscaloosa, and even though LSU-Alabama is the only game between ranked opponents today, there are still plenty of exciting games on today's schedule. We can start with two games that feature FBS-independents like Brigham Young and Notre Dame. BYU today travels to Madison to play #24 Wisconsin. BYU has already accepted a bid to play in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl while a win for Wisconsin could put the Badgers closer to at-large bid for a BCS Bowl (Kickoff - 3:30PM ESPN) The other independent, #25 Notre Dame, will play Pittsburgh this evening at 8PM on ABC.
In the Big Ten today, an unranked Minnesota team will host Penn State at noon on ESPN2. The point spread on ESPN has the Nittany Lions favored by 2.5-3 points but the Golden Gophers have a three-game conference winning streak. Penn State, however, had to go into overtime last week in order to beat Illinois, a team that has not won a conference game since 2011. Speaking of Illinois, the Fighting Illini play the Indiana Hoosiers this afternoon at 3:30PM on The Big Ten Network. The other nationally-televised conference game in the Big Ten is Nebraska vs. Michigan (3:30 PM ABC). Both teams have the same overall record (6-2) and are bowl eligible, but a win for Nebraska today could put the Huskers only one game behind the current Legends Division leader, Michigan State. Both Michigan State and Ohio State have this week off.
In the Big XII, Texas, currently undefeated in the conference standings, will visit Morgantown today to play West Virginia. While Texas is already bowl-eligible, WVU needs a win today in order to have, at the most, a seven-win season. WVU is currently 3-1 at home but Texas is hoping to avenge last year's loss to the Mountaineers in Austin. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00PM on FOX. #14 Oklahoma State hosts Kansas at 4:00 PM on FOX Sports 1 and #25 Texas Tech has a home game against Kansas State on ABC at noon. Check local listings since the TXTech-KSU game is on at the same time and on the same network at the #2 Florida State-Wake Forest match-up.
Speaking of ACC teams, #11 Miami will host Virginia Tech this evening at 7:00 PM on ESPN. Miami may have lost an opportunity to play for the National Championship after their loss to Florida State last week, but should the Hurricanes win the rest of their season, they may have a chance to earn an at-large bid in a BCS Bowl Game.
Finally, in the SEC, the team to watch is Auburn. Currently ranked #9 in the BCS Rankings, the Tigers have had a five-game winning streak since their only loss to LSU back in September 21st. Auburn plays Tennessee today at noon on ESPN in their last road game of the regular season. Next week Auburn will play Georgia at home, and the Tigers have a bye week before they host Alabama in the Iron Bowl on November 30th.
Enjoy the day, Everybody!!
