Week #13 Non-BCS College Football Rankings

The Associated Press Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll rankings have been released and Alabama is again number one in both polls.  I have some reservations with this development since the Crimson Tide, in last night's game against Mississippi State, only scored twenty points against a Bulldogs team with a losing record.  Even ESPN's postgame recap described last night's Alabama team as "lethargic, uninspired, sloppy and downright ordinary against a middling Southeastern Conference team."  Still, the AP and the Coaches Poll ranked Alabama ahead of Florida State, Baylor, and Ohio State, three teams that dominated their opponents yesterday.  Speaking of Ohio State, the Buckeyes are still in the top five in both polls.  However, the AP decided to move them from third to fourth despite their win over Illinois (OSU's place in the Coaches Poll is unchanged).  Last weekend's biggest loser though, was undoubtedly Stanford.  After their loss to an unranked USC, the Cardinals fell five places in the AP to tenth place and seven spots in the Coaches Poll to twelfth.  This development has once again put Oregon (now ranked 5th in both polls) in a position where they could secure a BCS-level bowl bid after their 44-21 win over Utah last night.   As for the rest of the top ten in the AP, #6 Auburn, #7 Clemson, #8 Missouri, and #9 Texas A&M each moved up one place as a result of Stanford's loss.  Texas, Miami (FL), and Georgia were dropped from the AP Top 25 after their losses to Oklahoma State, Duke, and Auburn, respectively.  The Howell Report will post the full BCS rankings and Jerry Palm's revised Bowl projections in Monday's blog entry.  Enjoy the evening, everybody!
