Week #9 College Football Rankings

The Associated Press Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll rankings are now available and compared to last week's rankings, there was, as Jerry Lee Lewis famously put it, "a whole lot of shakin' goin' on."  Of course, the great shakeup began with Louisville's fall to Central Florida last Friday and it continued on Saturday when eight more ranked teams, including Clemson, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, UCLA, Texas A&M, Washington, and LSU, lost their games.  As a result, Washington, Florida, and Georgia were dropped from the AP rankings.  Central Florida's upset of Louisville earned them the #21 spot in the AP while Michigan and Nebraska moved back into rankings.   As for the top ten in the AP, Alabama and Oregon retain their places as #1 and #2 respectively.  Florida State received #3 while Ohio State remained in the #4 spot.  Missouri jumped nine places to #5, Baylor advanced six spots to #6, and Miami (FL) was awarded the #7 rank despite their struggle against an unranked North Carolina team last Thursday evening (the Hurricanes only won by four points).  Finally, the eighth, ninth, and tenth places in the AP were given to Stanford, Clemson, and Texas Tech, respectively.  Tonight, ESPN will reveal the first BCS rankings.  These will be available tomorrow on this blog along with Jerry Palm's latest postseason bowl game selections.
