Week #8 College Football Rankings

The Associated Press Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll rankings for week #8 are now available and Alabama still has the number one spot.  But the bigger story this week is the fact that seven ranked teams lost yesterday, and five of those losses were to lower ranked or non-ranked squads.  Texas upset Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry and the Sooners fell to #18 from #12 in the AP.  Northwestern and Michigan both lost to Wisconsin and Penn State respectively and the Wolverines and Wildcats were dropped from the AP Top 25.   Stanford fell from #5 to #13 after losing to an unranked Utah team, and Georgia fell to #15 after its loss to #25 Missouri (The Tigers are now ranked 14th in the AP).  Because of Stanford's loss, the top 5 in both polls now includes Florida State, which is now ranked 5th in both the AP and in the Coaches Poll.  As for the other three members of the top 5, Oregon, Clemson, and Ohio State, their positions in both polls remain unchanged even though the Buckeyes were off last week.

Correction:  I wrote earlier that the first BCS rankings would be available starting this week.  Rather, they will be available beginning next week.  I apologize for my mistake.  However, my plan to post Jerry Palm's latest BCS bowl predictions remains unchanged.
