Notre Dame beats USC, 22-13, and clinches BCS National Championship Berth
It looks like the Fighting Irish will head to the BCS National Championship game now that they have beaten USC. This development also means that the chaos that upended the BCS last year may not be repeated again in 2012. However, the team that Notre Dame will play in the National Championship may not be determined until after next weekend. In the meantime, Jerry Palm over at CBS Sports has a great analysis of the postseason bowl games. Each week he makes predictions of which teams will appear in all 35 BCS and non-BCS bowl matches. Maybe your team is on his list. His website can be found here: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/bowls/predictions

Ohio State Remains Perfect; SEC Championship Game is set: Alabama vs. Georgia
12 Wins, Zero losses. In his first year as head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Urban Meyer has led his team to a perfect regular season record. While Buckeye fans throughout the college football world can celebrate this accomplishment, they still have to sit out the postseason because of NCAA sanctions. Ohio State will not have a BCS ranking either, but the Buckeyes have a chance to finish the season with a high ranking in the Associated Press Top 25 and a chance to be next year's preseason number one. Congratulations from this blogger on your perfect regular season.
ESPN's postgame interview with Coach Meyer can be found here: http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=323290194 Final Score: OSU 26, Michigan 21.
After Alabama crushed its rival Auburn in today's Iron Bowl (Final Score: Alabama 49, Auburn 0) the Crimson Tide clinched the SEC West Division title and an opportunity to face the #3 Georgia Bulldogs, the SEC East winner, in the conference championship game on December 1st. Since the SEC is the reigning king of college football, it is very likely that the SEC champion will clinch a spot in the BCS National title game. This begs the question of who either Alabama or Georgia will face in that game. Currently, there are 3 SEC teams among the top five spots of the BCS rankings (#2 Alabama, #3 Georgia, and #4 Florida). Notre Dame is still number one as I write this post, #4 Florida beat #10 Florida State (Final Score: 37-26) earlier today in Tallahassee, and #5 Oregon put away #15 Oregon State in the Civil War (Final Score: 48-24). If Notre Dame loses to Southern California there is a very real possibility that two SEC teams could play for the BCS National Championship for the second year in a row. Last year's debacle with LSU versus Alabama finally convinced the NCAA and the FBS Conferences to implement a playoff system that will begin with the 2014 season. We will see what happens tomorrow evening when the last regular season BCS rankings are unveiled.
Scores so far today:
Pittsburgh shocks #18 Rutgers, 27-6; UCONN upsets Louisville in triple overtime, 23-20; Northwestern mauls Illinois, 50-14; Virginia Tech squeaks by Virginia, 17-14; South Florida decimates Alabama-Birmingham, 49-24; Purdue hammers Indiana, 56-35; Southern Methodist edges Tulsa, 35-27; Tennessee takes down Kentucky, 37-17; Miami (FL) barely beats Duke, 52-45; Western Kentucky beats North Texas, 25-24; Texas-San Antonio defeats Texas State, 38-31; Baylor wins a shootout against Texas Tech in overtime, 52-45; North Carolina State takes down Boston College, 27-10; North Carolina puts away Maryland, 45-38; Utah State destroys Idaho, 45-9; Michigan State beats Minnesota and gets bowl eligibility, 26-10; Vanderbilt demotes Wake Forest, 55-21; #13 Oklahoma wins Bedlam over #21 Oklahoma State in overtime, 51-48; Brigham Young rolls past New Mexico State, 50-14; Penn State triumphs in overtime over Wisconsin, 24-21; Houston runs away from Tulane, 40-17; Fresno State grounds Air Force, 48-15; Middle Tennessee State narrowly defeats Troy, 24-21; San Diego State handily beats Wyoming, 42-28; Memphis defeats Southern Mississippi, 42-24; Louisiana-Lafayette drives past South Alabama, 52-30; Louisiana Monroe beats Florida International in overtime, 23-17; Colorado State barely beats New Mexico, 24-20; South Carolina gets a win over its Palmetto rival #11 Clemson, 27-17; and #8 Stanford outplays #17 UCLA, 35-17.*
*Since Stanford beat Oregon last week, they will clinch the Pac-12 North division title. They will have a rematch with UCLA, the Pac-12 South winner, in the conference championship game on Friday, November 30th.

Nebraska earns a spot in the Big Ten Conference title game with win over Iowa, 13-7
On a frosty Friday in Iowa City (the wind chill measured in the teens at one point) the #14 ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers clinched a conference championship game appearance for the first time as a member of the Big Ten. They will go on to face the Wisconsin Badgers, the projected Leaders Division champion* in Indianapolis on Saturday, December 1st. As for the Huskers victory against Iowa, it was a defensive struggle from the beginning. Both teams had to deal with high winds that interfered with passing (Nebraska avg. 4.5 yards per pass, 63 total; Iowa avg. 3.8 yards per pass, 92 total) and defensive lines that allowed less than 200 rushing yards per team offense (Nebraska avg. 3.7 yards per rush, 195 total; Iowa avg. 2.8 yards per rush, 108 total). Iowa finishes the season with a 2-6 conference record, 4-8 overall, and will not go to a post-season bowl. Nebraska will go the Big Ten Championship as the Legends Division representative with a 7-1 conference record, 10-2 overall.
*Ohio State is undefeated, but cannot play in the postseason because of NCAA sanctions.
Other scores so far:
Syracuse pounds Temple, 38-20; #23 Kent State shuts down Ohio, 28-6; Ball State edges Miami (OH), 31-24; and Northern Illinois annihilates Eastern Michigan, 49-7.
More Scores: East Carolina survives an overtime shootout against Marshall, 65-59; Bowling Green defeats Buffalo, 21-7; #7 LSU outlasts Arkansas for the Golden Boot, 20-13; Utah barely defeats Colorado, 42-35; Central Michigan takes down Massachusetts, 42-21; Washington State de-fangs #25 Washington in overtime, 31-28; and West Virginia gets bowl-eligible by narrowly beating Iowa State, 31-24.
